Natuur als Gemeengoed

Every year, on the day of the Ascension of Christ, there is a market in the city centre of ‘s-Hertogenbosch called ‘De Bossche geraniummarkt’. It attracts many lovers of flowering plants, which is why it was the perfect setting for artist Frank Bruggeman to find out whether or not the visitors were also interested in something a little less ordinary. He set up a booth presenting three projects, all part of his study ‘Natuur als gemeengoed’ (Nature as common good): Happy Orchid, Onttegel de voortuin (De-tile your frontyard) and Bossche zadenmengsel (Bosch’ seed mixture). All of these projects explore nature-related feelings of happiness in an urban environment and invite us to embrace nature in a wilder, more natural form. For example by offering a mixture of seeds found throughout the city and selling a selection of plants less likely to be found on markets like these. This day was part of the Reinventing Happiness project, initiated by Stedelijk Museum s’-Hertogenbosch. For more information, click here.
