Sheep shearing

Every year there is a wool festival in Orvelte, a beautiful monumental village in the Dutch countryside of Drenthe. People sell their products made of wool and there are demonstrations of several activities having to do with the herd of sheep that resides in the village as well. I photographed Wouter, while he was demonstrating the process of shearing a sheep with the use of old fashioned sheep shearing scissors. This manual way of doing it takes about 45 minutes, but he prefers it to using electric shears, because this way he gets to work more precise and neatly. Resulting in a more beautiful end product. For more information about the herd of sheep – for example how you can adopt one – click here.
