THE TINKER. In the summer of 2023, a dear friend and I spent a few weeks in Sweden to celebrate Midsommar. We enjoyed the country side sight seeing, visiting charming villages and meeting interesting people. One evening we were driving around when we came across a few pastures with beautiful horses in them. My friend told me these were Tinkers. Quickly after that, the owner drove by and we ended up chatting a bit about her horses. I asked her if it was ok if we took some photo’s and with her permission we tried to capture the beauty of these animals. As I was trying to get a good photo, I found myself struggling with finding the right angle, trying to make sure the barbed wire fencing wasn’t predominantly in the frame. After a while I ended up across from a single Tinker, but I just couldn’t seem to get a good shot. As I reluctantly started to pack my camera away, not wanting to keep my friend waiting any longer, the Tinker suddenly moved around in a little circle, placing himself firmly on a few rocks facing me directly. He just stood there patiently for a few minutes, the sun shining on his beautiful manes, giving me the opportunity to take his picture. I felt so happy and grateful. And without wanting to make a bigger deal out of it, to me it felt like a beautiful metaphor for how sometimes all you have to do is let go, so that something can unfold naturally.
